Visit to John Tebbutt's Observatory: 1 Nov 2026

Sydney City Skywatcher members, and family/friends, are invited to visit John Tebbutt's observatory in Windsor on Sunday 1 November. John Tebbutt was the first president of the New South Wales branch of the British Astronomical Association (now Sydney City Skywatchers).
This is an outreach opportunity to see the exhibition called 'Starry Night: the World of John Tebbutt' about Windsor Observatory and other exhibits at the Hawkesbury Museum and then go on a tour of Tebbutt's Observatory with his grandson John Halley Tebbutt. After the tour some may wish to see Tebbutt's grave at St Matthews Anglican Church in Windsor as it is very interesting.

Time:12:45pm
We will meet at the Hawkesbury Regional Museum at 12:45pm. This is optional. We will leave here at 1:40pm (those walking) or 1:45pm (those driving).

Admission is free.
It is a 4 minute drive (or pleasant 16 minute walk) from the Hawkesbury Regional Museum to Tebbutt's Observatory. It is a 30 minute walk (2.5km) from Windsor railway station to Tebbutt's Observatory.
Time: 2pm
Meet at John Tebbutt's Observatory for a tour. This is guided so you must be on time for this.
We suggest a small donation (cash only) towards the upkeep of the observatory.

Food: There are many options near the Museum in Windsor to have lunch or eat something afterwards at the RSL club.

WHAT TO CONSIDER: Our tour will be outside as well as inside. November can be hot so bring a hat, water and wear sunscreen. It can also be wet so be prepared for the weather conditions.
