Planetary science involves interdisciplinary research into all aspects of planets, their systems, and the processes that shape them. In this on-line presentation Dr Chrysa Avdellidou will discuss her research into hypervelocity impacts of asteroids, meteors and the combination of both on planets and their Moons and why this fascinating research is important to understanding our solar system and beyond.

Bio
Dr Chrysa Avdellidou is a lecturer in Planetary Science at Leicester University School of Physics and Astronomy and has held academic posts at the University of Kent and Laboratoire Lagrange, Observatoire de la Côte d’Azur, Universite Côte d'Azur.
Dr Avdellidou’s scientific interests involve hypervelocity impacts, asteroids(and meteors) and the combination of both. Her research spans examining impacts in small scales to understand the contamination of asteroid surfaces with exogenous material and also the asteroid families which are products of large scale catastrophic collisions. In 2024 she was one of the organisers of the fourth British Planetary Science Conference at the British National Space Centre in Leicester. Chrysa was previously a Research Fellow with the European Space Agency where she analysed lunar observations of impact flashes.
